Preserving Black History by Restoring Black Churches

Meetinghouse Revival collects, preserves, and celebrates the legacy of Corsicana’s Black communities. Through the revival of historically significant Black gathering places, intergenerational storytelling, and cultural education, we engage in Black place-keeping and interrupt cultural loss. We do this work alongside the members and descendants of our historically-Black communities in order to inform and inspire the next generation of Corsicanans.

Saving Wesley Chapel CME

Since 2021, Meetinghouse Revival has been working to revive Corsicana’s historic Wesley Chapel CME church into an intergenerational gathering place for cultural education and creative storytelling.

Eastside Oral History Project

The difference between space and place is the presence of stories. Listen to community members share their memories of what it was like growing up on Corsicana’s east side. Learn about the businesses, schools, churches, and close-knit relationships that flourished in Corsicana’s historic Black neighborhoods.

Donate to Meetinghouse Revival

Your donation is critical to our mission. Gifts from supports like you help us restore a century-old African-American church, research Corsicana’s historically-Black congregations, and host cultural events that bring our whole community together.

“African American history in Navarro County has been largely untold and even ignored. Preservation of Wesley Chapel CME will go a long way toward telling the story of the many and valuable contributions of African Americans in our County, and providing a more equitable documentation of our history.”

— Dr. Mary Jane McReynolds, President of The Navarro County Historical Commission
